Quiz Night at the Moorcock on Tuesday 5 June

There will be another pub quiz at the Moorcock on Tuesday 5 June, starting at 8.30pm.

10% of the cash raised from entry fees  for the last quiz was donated to the air ambulance, the remainder was used for prize money. We expect the plan is similar for future events, and will be confirmed on the night or contact the Moorcock for further information.

The previous quizzes have been good fun with a wide variety of questions posed by Neville Woodfine followed by a number of people kicking themselves at answers, so please come along and give it a try.

Tree Clearing during the Snowstorm

The Garsdale Parish Council would like to thank Stephen Labbate, John Park, Eddie Lord and Jodie Mitchell for clearing away the fallen trees that blocked the road during the “Beast From the East”. The road was completely blocked as was the back road due to snow, so there was potentially no access for emergency services to most of Garsdale.  Cumbria Highways where unable to carry out the work at the time.

PC Meeting 18 January postponed to 1 February

Unfortunately, several councillors are unable to attend the parish council meeting on 18 January due to illness and work commitments, so the meeting has now been postponed to 1 February 2018, at 7.30 as usual.

Hopefully the weather will be more travel friendly by then as well.

Garsdale Bonfire night – Saturday NOT Friday this year!

Please note, this year the Garsdale Bonfire Night will be held on Saturday 4 November, NOT Friday as usual. This is because Sedbergh are not having a Bonfire on the Saturday this year.

Start 7.00 pm, cost £2.50 for adults, children free.

Refreshments incl hot soup will be available in the village hall afterwards. There is also a rumour of hot dogs this year!

Please pass the word around to any of your neighbours who don’t subscribe to the Parish website news.

Consultation on Privater Water Supply Legislation

If your property has a shared private water supply, like most of us, you may have received a letter asking for responses to a consultation about some proposed changes to the legislation for private water supplies. To summarise very briefly, the following changes are proposed:

1) To increase the things sampled for, for at least 3 years, at extra cost to us.
2) To allow the local authority to increase charges for sampling and risk assessments, as they see fit.
3) To give the local authority powers to carry out works on our water supplies if they see fit, and charge us the cost.

Garsdale Parish council has sent the attached letter objecting to these three proposals, as we do not believe the proposal takes any account of the rural householders’ interests.

If you do not agree with the above proposal, then please ensure you lodge your objection before the deadline of 24 October, either online at

or by email to drinkingwaterquality@defra.gsi.gov.uk
